The new Bulgarian ombudsman, Socialist MP Maya Manolova, will swear an oath in parliament on Wednesday.

The regular plenary sitting of parliament will begin with depriving Manolova of her powers as MP, Darik radio informs.

Parliament elected her as the new ombudsman at a secret ballot on July 30 in competition with the incumbent holder of the position - Konstantin Penchev.

Manolova was nominated by her colleagues from the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), but to a large extent she led the campaign on her own.

Penchev was nominated for a second term in the last possible moment by the Reformist Bloc (RB).

The new ombudsman has to come into office on October 20 when the term of the incumbent expires.

Apart from depriving her of her powers as MP, Manolova will also have to give up her BSP membership in order to assume the new duty.
