Following a meeting with US business representatives on Wednesday, President Rosen Plevneliev stated that new US companies will soon enter the Bulgarian market.
The companies which attended the meeting with Plevneliev are members of the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU), which features firms like Henry Schein, AIG, AES, Citigroup and companies that are among the 500 largest in the world.
The president said that Bulgaria holds a serious potential and is a centre of some of the most dynamic industries in Southeastern Europe.
The Head of State announced that fresh US investments in Bulgaria have been negotiated during the meeting.
According to him, a US company will open an office employing more than 100 programmers very soon, while another firm committed itself to double the number of programmers it has already employed in the country from 500 to 1000.
Plevneliev added that a US pharmaceutical company had expressed an interest towards expanding its activities in Bulgaria and even purchasing a Bulgarian pharmaceutical company.
He pointed to information and communication technologies (ICT), software industry, outsourcing, manufacturing of car components and food production as the sectors representing the strong sides of the Bulgarian economy.
Plevneliev identified Bulgaria as a regional centre for ICT, the most advanced country in the software industry and the only European country among the top ten outsourcing destinations.
In his opinion, Bulgaria benefited from its peaceful policy, tolerance, discipline and example of successful integration.
He said that these favourable conditions echoed in other countries and will soon lead to the emergence of new economic opportunities.
Plevneliev stated that it was high time for Bulgarians to start making use of them and unlock the country's own potential.
