Bulgaria: Bulgarian-German Drama Awarded at Montreal Film Festival The Petrov File (screen capture)

Dosieto Petrov (The Petrov File), a drama co-produced by Bulgaria and Germany, has grabbed one of the two Best Director awards at the Montreal Film Festival's 2015 edition.

The drama by Bulgarian director Georgi Balabanov tells the story of a theater actor (bearing the name Aleksandar Petrov) who is banned from playing in the 1980s, just a few years before the end of Communism. After the democratic changes, he meets an old friend who offers him to head a new political party that, Petrov is told, can save the country from chaos.

Finland's 2 Nights Till Morning is the other awarded movie in the same category. There, two young people from different nations and without a common language are trapped together by a volcanic eruption, just after having had a one-night stand.

The Grand Prize of the Americas, the top prize at the festival, went to a story about a beheaded man called Mad Love, written and directed by Philippe Ramos.
