Bulgarian MPs will convene for their first plenary sitting after the summer recess on Wednesday.

At the beginning, the parliamentary groups will announce their priorities for the fourth session of the 43rd National Assembly.

It is expected that the focus of their statements will be on the forthcoming local elections, which are scheduled to take place on October 25.

Politicians are calling for a moderate tone of the election campaign and will abstain from agitating, daily Dnevnik informs.

The reform of the judiciary and the amendments to the constitution will be the priorities of the ruling coalition between GERB and the Reformist Bloc (RB).

The main opposition party – the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), will focus on the social spirit of its commitments and will offer an alternative to the 2016 budget.

The new session will begin with seven rather than eight parliamentary groups as five MPs left the group of the Bulgarian Democratic Centre (BDC) in the last day before the summer recess.

Parliament Speaker Tsetska Tsacheva will miss the first plenary sitting as she is on a visit to the US, where she is participating in an international forum of parliament speakers.

Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and the four deputy prime ministers – Rumyana Bachvarova, Meglena Kuneva, Ivaylo Kalfin and Tomislav Donchev will be subject to blitz parliamentary control.

The draft programme of the parliament for this week foresees debating the anti-corruption bill at first reading, which was interrupted during the last day before the summer recess.
