Bulgaria's Economy Minister Bozhidar Lukarski assured that the inspections on the quality of the fuels at petrol stations will continue.

In an interview for the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) on Tuesday, Lukarski stated that the fuel, which is sold at petrol stations has a higher quality.

The minister revealed that the infringements detected on the measurement devices were under 1 %, while those related to the quality of the fuels were 7 %.

The infringements were not concentrated in any particular region as such were detected all over the country.

Lukarski assured that the inspections were regular rather than a purposeful campaign.

According to him, the drop in the prices of petrol after the inspections was related to the decrease of its prices at the international markets.

The minister explained that the fuel prices in Bulgaria were determined on a market principle.

In countries, such as Austria, there were state firms, which distributed fuels and these firms could maintain prices close to the production costs.

However this was not the case in Bulgaria.

Lukarski expressed satisfaction that Bulgarians have started to have an attitude on fuel prices.

Part of the infringements were detected during the submission of data from the servers of the petrol stations to the server of the National Revenue Agency (NAP).

At present the two agencies responsible for ensuring control – the Customs Agency and the State Agency for Metrological and Technical Surveillance, were not managing to fulfill their functions.

A national protest against the high fuel prices is scheduled to take place throughout the country on Tuesday.

In Sofia it will be held in front the building of parliament.

The initiators of the protest, which was organised through Facebook, argue that the fuel prices are cheaper in Europe.

They are discontent with both the prices and quality of fuels as well as with the inadequate measures taken against the monopoly in the sector.

The protests will be held despite the massive inspections aimed to detect frauds related to the quantity and quality of fuels at petrol stations, which were launched last month.
