US military equipment is arriving to Bulgaria for participation in the planned joint multinational activity Black Sea Rotational Force – Platinum Lion 16-1.

The US armament includes four M1 tanks, Striker armoured personnel carriers (APCs), artillery systems as well as supporting equipment, the defence ministry's press service informs.

Bulgaria will participate with armoured and supporting equipment as well as servicemen from the Bulgarian Land Forces, National Military University and Joint Forces Command.

160 servicemen from the US Navy as well as 35 Romanian troops will take part in the joint activity.

The training will take place in two stages in the months of September and October at the Novo Selo Training Area.

The aim of the activity is to improve the capabilities for joint participation in counter-terrorist and peacekeeping missions as well as increasing the level of operational compatibility between the Bulgarian armed forces and the US Navy.

The training is expected to contribute to increasing the opportunities and capabilities of the Bulgarian army for participation in joint multinational operations.
