The Supreme Election Board proposed November 1 as the date for holding early elections in Turkey.
The holding of snap polls has become very likely after negotiations to form a coalition government failed and Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu returned the mandate to President Recep Erdogan on Tuesday.
In the last general elections, which were held on June 7, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) failed to gain the majority it had previously enjoyed in successive parliaments.
This ensued in negotiations of forming a coalition government with two of the three other parliamentary represented parties.
However talks with both the Republican People's Party (CHP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) failed to reach an agreement.
The pro-Kurdish People's Democratic Party (HDP) has consistently ruled out the possibility of forming a coalition government with AKP.
The 45-day deadline on forming a cabinet expires on Sunday and it is unlikely that any of the other parties will be able to negotiate a coalition government within this time frame.
The legislation stipulates that new elections should be held within ninety days, but the election board has the authority to shorten the period, Daily Hurriyet reports.
