A total of 9,870 migrants have crossed into Bulgaria this year seeking refuge at the specialized centres, the deputy head of Bulgaria’s State Agency for Refugees Vasil Varbanov has said.
The number of migrants entering Bulgaria has been rising by the month, from 1,070 in January to 1,869 in July, BGNES quoted Varbanov as saying on 13 August 2015.
“Since the beginning of the year, 5,200 migrants have crossed the border, seeking refuge. Another 4,200 have been apprehended inside Bulgaria, which means that more than 9,400 have entered the country. At the same time, Bulgaria has apprehended 4,700 as part of measures to meet its commitment to prevent the illegal exiting of migrants from its territory,” Varbanov said.
The refugee centres in Bulgaria currently are 67% full, he added.
