Bulgaria’s government debt totalled EUR 12.26B in nominal terms at the end of June, equivalent to 28.7% of the projected 2015 GDP, official figures show.
The total figure was EUR 50.7M lower than at the end of May due to repayment of debt during the month of June, the Finance Ministry said in a monthly debt bulletin.
The government’s domestic debt was EUR 4.36B (35.6% of total) and foreign debt was EUR 7.89B (64.4%) at the end of June.
Euro-denominated debt slightly increased to 78.5% of total at the end of June from 78.3% a month earlier, while lev debt decreased to 20.5% of total from 20.6%.
In the structure of the debt by creditor, Eurobonds issued in international capital markets had the largest share (45.2%), followed by domestic debt (35.6%), borrowings from the European Union (9.5%), and debt owed to the World Bank (6.1%).
Bulgaria paid BGN 70.8M on its government debt in June.
Euro-denominated debt payments in the first half of 2015 amounted to BGN 3.18B and payments in US dollars were equivalent to BGN 1.90B. Lev-denominated debt payments through June were BGN 228.4 M.
