What really killed Bulgaria’s King Boris III in the midst of WWII, CNN’s Christiane Amanpour asks his son Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha in an interview.
The CNN's chief international correspondent also speaks with Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha how King Boris III saved tens of thousands of Jews living in Bulgaria from being deported to Nazi death camps during the war.
In the interview Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha reflects on an “amazing life” -- from his father's mysterious death during WWII to returning to Bulgaria triumphant half a century later and becoming prime minister (2001-2005).
“I’ve tried after the war, from 1973 on, which was 30 years after my father’s death, I started looking into the different archives and chanceries of various countries and we never found anything indicating any foul play,” Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha said.
“Of whatever was declassified the only part to which we haven’t had full access is Moscow archives. My father had no heart condition, mind you, but he certainly was under tremendous stress so for all we know he could’ve had a heart attack without being induced but his agony that week seems to be…there was something more than just a heart attack.”
