Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta will resume his activity in his capacity as prime minister from Thursday.

Ponta announced this in a written statement addressed to President Klaus Iohannis on Wednesday, saying that he was returning to office after the causes preventing him from exercising his official duties have been removed.

Ponta underwent a knee surgery in a clinic in Turkey in mid-June and during his recovery the duties of prime minister were carried out by Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Gabriel Oprea, AGERPRES news agency informs.

The Romanian PM revealed that the surgery was much more complicated than anticipated, but expressed hope that by December he will be able to do sports again.
