Bulgaria claimed ten medals and finished 27th in the medal ranking of the First European Games, which took place in Baku between June 12 and 28.

Bulgaria was represented by 122 athletes, who claimed one gold, four silver and five bronze medals.

The only gold medal was claimed by sisters Stefani and Gabriela Stoevi, who won the women's doubles badminton competition on Saturday.

The Bulgarian men's national volleyball team was close to winning a gold medal as well, but suffered a 1-3 defeat to Germany in the final on Sunday.

The other three silver medals were won by Kalina Stefanova in the women's -60kg sambo, Elitsa Yankova in the women's 48kg freestyle wrestling and Antoaneta Boneva in the women's 25m pistol shooting.

The holders of the five bronze medals were Daniel Aleksandrov in the men's 80kg Greco-Roman wrestling, Evelina Nikolova in the women's 55kg freestyle wrestling, Taybe Yusein in the women's 60kg freestyle wrestling, Petya Nedelcheva in the women's singles badminton and Magdalena Varbanova in the women's -52kg sambo.

Thus, Bulgaria won medals in five out of the thirty sports, which were featured in the games – badminton, volleyball, sambo, wrestling and shooting.

Russia convincingly won the games after claiming a total of 164 medals – 79 gold, 40 silver and 45 bronze.

The hosts from Azerbaijan finished second with 56 medals, followed by Great Britain with 47 medals.
