The gasoline spill from a dented pipeline of Bulgaria’s Lukoil Neftochim Burgas refinery poses no threat to the residents of the residents of the district of Dolno Ezerovo of the Black Sea city, according to environmental experts.

According to preliminary estimates, some 30-40 tonnes of gasoline type A-95 leaked from a ruptured oil pipeline on Wednesday evening, according to reports of the BGNES news agency.

According to a media statement of Lukoil Neftochim, the amount of gasoline spilled totals 10-30 tonnes.

Environment Minister Ivelina Vasileva arrived late on Wednesday in Burgas to inspect the site.

The gasoline was spilled over the Dolno Ezerovo – Bratovo road and in the Chukarliyska River.

Experts from the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water – Burgas took immediate steps to contain the spill.

The road was blocked in order to prevent a fire.

Environmental experts informed that 6-7 samples had shown that the spill had not affected the protected area in the Vaya Lake.

Ten tanks are pumping out the surface layer of gasoline.

The spill is under control.

Police officers and firefighters have been dispatched to the site.

Bulgaria’s Environment Minister has assured that Lukoil Neftochim will be penalized for the spill.

According to the owner of the Burgas-based refinery, pipeline corrosion or problems with a longitudinal weld are the most probable reason for the spill.

The company informs that the authorities are also investigating a scenario involving an attempt to steal fuel.
According to Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov, as cited by the Bulgarian National Radio, there is no risk of discharge of gasses.
