Hungary is set on building a 4-kilometer fence along its border with Serbia in order to counteract the immigrant influx to the country.
"We are talking about a stretch of border 175 km (110 miles) long, whose physical closure can happen with a four-meter high fence,'' said Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto at a local press conference Wednesday, as reported by Reuters. ''The interior minister received an instruction to prepare that."
The statement came merely a month after Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban firmly opposed the idea for the implementation of quotas in distributing refugees across the EU.
"Immigration is one of the most serious problems facing the European Union today," Szijjarto added, Reuters reported. "The EU's countries seek a solution... but Hungary cannot afford to wait any longer."
