More than 1.1 million cars have crossed Danube Bridge 2 Vidin-Calafat since its launch on June 14, 2013, according to statistics published by the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency.
According to forecasts of Bulgaria’s Transport Ministry, some 450 000 vehicles were expected to use the facility in the first year after its launch.
Cargo vehicles weighing over 12 tonnes make up 40-45% of the traffic across Danube Bridge 2.
Car traffic across the bridge increases in the summer season.
The toll for crossing the bridge in one direction amounts to EUR 6 for cars, EUR 37 for trucks weighing over 12 tonnes, EUR 18 for trucks weighing up to 12 tonnes, and EUR 25 for buses.
According to the CEO of the Bulgarian-Romanian joint venture Danube Bridge 2 Vidin-Calafat AD, Lyubomir Nizamov, as cited by the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency, traffic across the facility continues to increase.
Some 1700-1800 cars cross Danube Bridge 2 on a daily basis, with a substantial increase in the number of vehicles registered after the launch of repair works at Danube Bridge 1 Ruse-Giurgiu.
To facilitate transport companies, all cashless payment options have been made available.
Crossing the Danube River via the Danube Bridge 2 takes 3-5 minutes, or around 10 minutes, taking into account the time it takes the border authorities to process the vehicles.
