Macedonian opposition leader Zoran Zaev, who heads socialist SDSM, is due in Bulgaria on Friday.

A day earlier his party's website informed of the visit, adding he would meet both leaders of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and state officials.

No schedule of the visit has been made public.

Zaev's trip to Bulgaria comes amid an ongoing political crisis in Macedonia. The opposition leader demands that the cabinet, led by PM Nikola Gruevski, resign, paving the way for a transitional government.

Macedonia has been rocked by a wiretapping scandal in the past few months which was followed by street protests and a deadly attack in Kumanovo which killed 8 police officers.

On Thursay, Zaev also met in Skopje the ambassadors of Belgium, Germany and France to Macedonia to discuss way to ease political tensions.
