Bulgaria: US Ambassador to Bulgaria Responds to Questions on Facebook

US Ambassador to Bulgaria Marcie Ries is answering questions by citizens posted on the US Embassy's Official Facebook Page.

''Up until Friday, Ambassador Marcie B. Ries will be answering your questions on the U.S. Embassy Sofia Facebook page,'' the statement says. ''If you would like to hear the Ambassador’s thoughts on topics of your interest, you are welcome to ask your questions in Bulgarian or English by close of business on Friday by writing them under the current post. Ambassador Ries will respond to your questions by close of business on Tuesday, May 26. We are looking forward to hearing from you!''

There currently are hundreds of responses and queries posted on various topics. Questions are aimed in two main directions - VISAs to the US, and US foreign policy. Some people even asked about the opinion of Ambassador Reis on Bulgarian policy and press freedom.

A number of people asked provokative questions: ''How much longer will the US keep on exploiting people and resources under the pretext of democracy?''

Others were more humorous: ''Who killed Kennedy?''

A large number also asked if and when Bulgarians will no longer need VISAs to travel to the US.

The responses are expected up until the upcoming Tuesday.
