The Bulgarian cabinet allocated on Thursday BGN 500 000 for archaeological and restoration works at the first Bulgarian capital of Pliska.
This was announced after a meeting between Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, Regional Minister Lilyana Pavlova, Director of the National Historical Museum (NIM) Bozhidar Dimitrov, the mayor of the nearby town of Kaspichan and archaeologists.
Borisov committed himself to providing the funds during his participation in the ceremony marking the 1150th anniversary of Bulgaria's conversion to Christianity, which took place in Pliska on Saturday.
Pavlova explained that five archaeological sites will be funded and the investment will result in a completed tourist attraction, part of which should be ready by this summer.
The regional minister expressed hope that the new section of the Hemus Motorway between Belokopitovo and Kaspichan should be launched on July 15.
This will allow for tourists to access some of the archaeological sites as early as this summer, investor.bg reports.
