The Macedonian police has detained two protesters and filed misdemeanour charges against them after anti-government demonstrations in front of Parliament building on Wednesday.

This was announced by Assistant Minister of Interior Ivo Kotevski on Thursday, when Police Day is observed in Macedonia.

Kotevski added that nine more individuals were identified as participants in the more violent protests, which occurred in front of the government building late on Tuesday.

Several people were fined and charged with ignoring an order issued by an official, the Macedonian Information Agency (MIA) reported.

Tensions in Macedonia have heightened after opposition SDSM leader Zoran Zaev has hurled a series of accusations against the government and demanded its resignation and that of Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski.

In his latest revelation on Tuesday, Zaev published wiretapping, which according to him proved that the state leadership and the interior ministry had plotted in the cover-up of a 2011 police killing.
