The card payments of Bulgarians abroad around the Orthodox Easter, which was celebrated between April 9 and 13, recorded a 21 % increase compared to the same holiday period last year.
This was announced by the representation of Visa Europe in Bulgaria, daily Dnevnik reports.
The value of purchases made with Visa cards abroad amounted to EUR 6.6 M, while the number of payments was nearly 140 000, which is an increase of 13 % compared to 2014.
Almost half of the total value – EUR 3.024 M was made by purchases at POS terminals, which is an increase of 37 % compared to last year.
The greatest amount was spent in Italy, where Bulgarians made 4400 purchases amounting to more than EUR 420 000.
A considerable use of Bulgarian Visa cards at POS terminals abroad was also registered in the United Kingdom, Turkey, France, Austria, Germany, Spain and the USA.
The transactions completed in these countries represented 65 % of the value of all transactions made at POS terminals with Visa cards.
Bulgarians made more than 6600 purchases in the United Kingdom, which is an increase of 51 % compared to 2014.
Nearly 3500 transactions were processed in Turkey, which is an increase of 67 % compared to last year.
Visa Europe in Bulgaria also registered improved results in the area of online commerce, where the transactions amounted to EUR 3.069 M, which is an increase of 8.5 % compared to 2014.
The Bulgarian users paid the greatest amounts to traders registered in the UK, Hungary, Ireland, and the USA, with 75 % of all online purchases made in these four countries.
The share of card not present transactions was the smallest, as these payments amounted to slightly over EUR 535 000, which was an increase of 30 % compared to last year's Easter.
