One police officer is dead and two have been left wounded after an alleged Islamist attack in Zvornik, northeastern Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The gunman, identified as Nerdin Ibric, parked his car by the police station, got out and opened fire shouting "Allahu Akbar", according to BalkanInsight.
Ibric was also killed in the shootout with police that followed.
Zvornik is located in the Republika Srpska, an entity within Bosnia-Herzegovina dominated by the ethnic Serb majority.
Tensions are mounting again in the federation whose functioning is currently arranged by the controversial Dayton peace agreement signed after the 1992-1995 war, which created its structure in accordance with territories conquered by the main sides in the conflict, namely Serbs and Muslim Bosniaks. No separate unit was designed for Croats, who also took part in the war.
Separatist forces are now seeking to trigger a secession of Republika Srpska and the establishment of a separate entity within the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (the country's second entity mainly populated by Muslims).
The Bosnian Serb government believes the attacker was acting on someone else's orders.
