The 26-year old Bulgarian-born Nina Dobrev (Nicolina Konstantinova Dobreva) devastated her fans Monday as she announced she was leaving the People's Choice Award winning TV show Vampire Diaries.
After six seasons, Dobrev took the decision to pursue new career goals and to leave her multiple vampire and non-vampire impersonations behind.
In a letter dedicated to her multiple fans, the actress stated the reasons and details of her decision.
"I always knew I wanted Elena's story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime,'' she wrote in a post on her Instagram profile. ''I was a human, a vampire, a doppelganger, a crazy immortal, a doppelganger pretending to be human, a human pretending to be a doppelganger. I got kidnapped, killed, resurrected, tortured, cursed, body-snatched, was dead and undead, and there's still so much more to come before the season finale in May. Elena fell in love not once, but twice, with two epic soulmates, and I myself made some of the best friends I'll ever know and built an extended family I will love forever."
Meanwhile, Michael Trevino, who plays Tyler Lockwood will also be leaving the series, the Huffington post reported.
The TV series with a fan base consisting of mostly teenagers, created huge fan buz around Dobrev and soon after her talent was noticed by other film producers. She was cast in the thriller Chloe (2009), playing in the company of Oscar-winner Julianne Moore, Liam Neeson and Amanda Seyfried.
Later, Dobrev scored a role in Stephen Chobsky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), alongside Ema Watson, Ezra Miller and Kate Walsh.
Addressing her multiple fans, she added, '' If you think you know what’s coming, you don’t... You, the wonderful fandom who gave more love, support and passion than anyone could have ever imagined seven years ago, when a young Degrassi girl from Canada showed up in L.A. to audition for ‘that Twilight” TV show''.
The crew of the Vampire Diaries in turn wished her every success and stated that they will be preserving her character Elena on the show in one form or another.
