Turkish security forces neutralised two attackers armed with bombs and long-barrel guns, who opened fire on a police department in Vatan Street in Istanbul on Wednesday.

The security guards launched a counter-attack, killing the female attacker, while the mail assailant, who fled injured, was arrested in less than an hour.

One of the security guards was lightly injured in the exchange of gunfire, Anadolu news agency reports.

No group has claimed responsibility for the latest incident, which comes after two similar attacks had taken place in Istanbul in the past two days.

Two armed men and a public prosecutor were killed on Tuesday when security forces stormed the courthouse, where the prosecutor had been taken hostage.

An intruder, who raided the district office of Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), was arrested on Wednesday.
