The massive landslide blocking the road between Smolyan and Pamporovo will not be cleared in less than 48 hours, according to Regional Development Minister Lilyana Pavlova.
Pavlova announced Sunday that the Asenovgrad-Smolyan road would remain closed for at least 48 hours so that over 4000 tonnes of rocks could be cleared from the two lanes of the road at a section near the village of Yugovo.
She said that large dangerous rocks would be exploded.
Pavlova, who visited the site of the landslide, explained that the bypass routes for people traveling between Smolyan and Plovdiv were Smolyan-Krichim-Devin or Smolyan-Kardzhali-Plovdiv.
Bulgaria’s Regional Development Minister, as cited by Sega daily, informed that the landslide had activated overnight, with over 4000 tonnes of rock falling on the road.
She said that it was difficult to clear the road as there were many large rocks that were difficult to transport and some of them would probably have to be blasted.
