Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva announced on Tuesday that Romania's top anti-corruption officials will visit Bulgaria in March at her invitation.

Horia Georgescu, the President of Romania's National Integrity Agency, which represents the country's anti-corruption body, will visit Bulgaria on March 24 and 25, daily Dnevnik reports.

A week later Bulgaria will be visited by Laura Kovesi, the Chief Prosecutor of Romania's National Anticorruption Directorate, which is the country's specialised anti-corruption prosecution.

Kuneva said that Bulgaria is at an advanced stage in the process of preparing its anti-corruption strategy and the country was ready to assess what has not been successful until now.

The Deputy Prime Minister added that there should be legislation on the proposed anti-corruption body as well as criteria and standards for ensuring the accountability and monitoring the efficiency of this body.

Kuneva, who is leader of one of the parties constituting the Reformist Bloc (RB), expressed her firm stance that Bulgaria has to accede to the Schengen Area.

The RB, the junior coalition partner, insists on the establishment of anti-corruption structures on the Romanian model, but the main ruling party GERB has not yet expressed its support.
