Bulgaria Lags in Absorbing EU Funds, Risking Losses and Growing Debt
Bulgaria is falling behind in its utilization of European Union funds
The municipalities of Galabovo, Batak, Mineralni Bani and Yakoruda have issued a state of emergency Monday.
The announcement was made by Parvan Sekiranov from the Directorate General of the Fire Safety and Population Protection in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio.
He added that the attempts for the electircity supplies to be restored in the cut-off regions continue but is being slowed-down by the weather conditions.
Meanwhile, the state of emergency in Smolyan continues to be enact, as the electricity supply is active in merely two out of ten municipalities in the region - Devin and Chepelare.
Tundzha River overflew over its river bed Monday near Elhovo. The water has flooded parts of the local park, the market, and several streets in its vicinity. The water enetered nearby houses as well, as the critical level passed 4 m in height.
The road from Elhovo to Trankovo has been closed in addition to the flooded agricultural lands, as announced by Tundzha municipality.
The level of the river near Yambol, on the other hand, is now lower than the critical maximum of 6m.
Earlier today, the Ministry of Environment and Water announced that an overflowing of the river is expected today.
At present, the river levels in most parts of the country are above the alarming lines, with iminent danger for Sazliika River nar the town of Galabovo, that was also affected by the floods over the summer of 2014.
As a result of the overall increase in the quantity of rain and snowfalls, the overall increase in the river flows is expected, posing danger easpecially for the regions in the lower streams.
