Bulgaria: Bulgarian President Concludes Month of Political Consultations with PM Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and President Rosen Plevneliev. Photo: BGNES

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev and Prime Minister Boyko Borisov discussed on Friday the priorities of the government and the readiness of the executive to implement key reforms in 2015.

This completed the month of political consultations, which had been initiated by Plevneliev, the presidential press service reports.

Borisov assured the Head of State in the government's will to work towards stability and reforms, pointing that concrete actions have already been taken in some areas.

The Prime Minister pointed to the updated strategy for continuation of the reforms in the judiciary, which had been approved with wide political agreement.

Plevneliev highlighted that the implementation of the strategy is key for the achievement of progress in other sectors.

According to him, it will also serve as a prerequisite for attracting investments, economic development and restoring confidence of the citizens.

Borisov also revealed some of the reforms achieved in the energy sector, which aim to reduce the deficit in the system, the anticipated reduction amounting to BGN 350 M.

The legislative initiative for finalising the second stage of the full liberalisation of the energy market is expected until June.

The cabinet continues its efforts on ensuring the country's energy independence through extraction of own resources and the accelerated construction of interconnectors with neighbouring countries.

The political consensus reached at the consultative council for national security for completing the reform in the security sector will be implemented through a package of four bills.

Borisov assured that for the first time in 25 years the intelligence services will work according to clearly defined rules and the coordination between them will be improved.

The government continues its reforms in the fields of healthcare and education, as well its commitment to propose changes to the model of the pensions system until the end of March.

The President and Prime Minister expressed common stance on the acceleration of projects with European Union (EU) funding both in the expiring programme period and the current one.

The two discussed the principles for submitting nominations to the positions of Chief Secretary of the Interior Ministry and chairman of State Agency for National Security (DANS).

Borisov and Plevneliev discussed possible nominations, assuring that they are to cooperate on the appointments and ensuring the efficient functioning of these institutions.

The resignation of Interior Minister Veselin Vuchkov on Wednesday was followed by that of the ministry's Chief Secretary Svetlozar Lazarov and chairman of DANS Vladimir Pisanchev on Friday.

The Prime Minister and President were unanimous that only through dialogue between all parties, Bulgaria can achieve considerable progress on the implementation of the priority reforms in 2015.
