The leader of the Donetsk People's Republic, Alexander Zakharchenko said that 90% of its forces have been retreated from the contact line with Ukraine on Thursday.

"The Donetsk People’s Republic gives Kiev time till 19:00 Moscow time on February 27 to begin fulfillment of the Minsk agreements of February 12 in what concerns heavy weapons pullout. If the agreements are violated, the DPR reserves the right to pull its weapons back to the former locations of February 12, 2015," he added, as reported by the Donetsk News Agency.

The statement was made after the Minsk settlement. According to the agreement achieved at the Normandy four talks in the Belarusian capital, the ceasefire was to begin on February 15.

Additionally, according to the peace deal, both parties were expected to retreat heavy weaponry and thus to create a security zone of at least 50 kilometers away from the border points. Further specifics were implemented with regards to the type of weaponry used by military forces, according to TASS information agency.

Ukrainian troops, on the other hand were to be pulled away from the current engagement line with the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

There have been several accidents after the entering into force of the memorandum, thus putting to question the effectiveness of the procedure.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian forces have also started pulling back Thursday, as announced by the AFP news agency. According to military officers, the 100 mm weaponry have already been withdrawn from the front line in accordance with the Minsk agreement.
