The Greek government reversed its earlier decision to suspend all football action for indefinite period and instead announced one-week suspension of the top football Superleague.
The suspension is on the condition that authorities and clubs will abide by the promises to combat violence, daily Kathimerini reports.
After his second meeting with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Deputy Sport Minister Stavros Kontonis announced on Wednesday that the Superleague is postponed for the coming weekend.
All other leagues and cups will continue according to schedule.
The decision has been taken after fan violence during a match between rival teams Olympiacos and Panathinaikos at the weekend and brawl between club officials at a board meeting on Tuesday.
Kontonis stressed to football authorities that the law on fan clubs should be implemented, otherwise there was risk of further suspensions.
According to Greek law, the government can only impose a one-week suspension each time and football action has been suspended already twice this season.
As these statements were made, there were clashes at Lamia in the second-division match between the local club and Anagennisi Karditsa.
