Turkey warned that Syrian and Palestinian citizens, who pretend to be refugees, are planning to travel to Europe through Bulgaria in order to attack countries participating in the international coalition against IS.
Turkey's National Intelligence Organisation (MIT) also warned that IS militants might be planning to carry out terrorist attacks in Istanbul and Ankara against the diplomatic missions of these countries.
MIT informed of around 3000 IS militants, who are planning to cross into Turkey, particularly to Hatay, Adana, Ankara and Istanbul, Hurriyet Daily reports.
These are mainly militants, who retreated from Kobane in Syria, after it had been recaptured by the Kurdish forces.
For a long time Turkey was criticised for allowing foreign fighters to cross through its territory to join IS in Syria.
Since mid-2014 Turkey has increased its cooperation with intelligence services in European countries and imposed travel bans on several thousand foreigners.
According to reports, Turkey has deported 1056 fighters and imposed a travel ban on another 7833 people.
Revealing the true identity of IS insurgents and their location remains difficult and part of the border between Turkey and Syria in the Suruc district was declared “prohibited military zone”.
