3.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Tvarditsa Region in Central Bulgaria

An earthquake measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale was registered Thursday morning in the region of Tvarditsa, central Bulgaria, according to seismologists at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS).
According to BAS, which has a seismological center in the region of Tvarditsa, the magnitude was 3.9 on the Richter scale.
The jolt was located 210 kilometers east of Sofia and was felt strongest in Tvarditsa and the nearby settlements.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located south of the villages of Borov Dol and Zhalti Bryag, northeast of the town of Shivachevo, northwest of the village of Golyamo Chochoveni, along the Belenska River, Sliven district, according to BAS.
BAS seismologists commented that Thursday’s earthquake was not related to the 2.1-magnitude earthquake on Wednesday night in the southeastern region of Karnobat.
No aftershocks were registered Thursday morning in the Sliven district.
No damage or injuries were reported.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), the magnitude of Thursday’s earthquake was 4.4 on the Richter scale and the epicenter was located 16 kilometers west of Sliven.
The earthquake was reported at 8.16 am on Thursday.
Slightly after the jolt, the EMSC reported a magnitude of 4.6 on the Richter scale.
