Floods Cause State of Emergency Across Bulgaria

A state of emergency was announced on Sunday, after floods and hurricane winds took over a number of cities in Bulgaria. The disaster wrecked havoc on Smolyan, Burgas, Topolovgrad and Dobrich. Varshets, Devin and Kardzhali were also affected.
Floods claimed the lives of a nine-year-old boy and a man accompanying him in the southwest on Sunday, and more people have been declared missing throughout the country.
The Head of Road Infrastructure Agency to the Ministry of Regional Development, Lazar Lazarov announced on Monday that the damages caused so far amount to BGN 10 M, reported NOVA television.
In Burgas alone, seventy houses have been flooded. The main cause was Tundzha river's overflow, destroying a number of houses and their yards across Southern Bulgaria, the Bulgarian National Radio announced. Additionally, several small towns and villages in the Bourgas and Dobrich vicinity have no access to electricity.
In 2014, the cost of damages after a number of floods and infrastructure problems, amounted to EUR 400 M.
Currently, military servants, firefighters and civilians have joined efforts as municipalities across the country are attempting to recover after the floods.
