The Bulgarian citizens held in Sudan are alive and well and are not taken hostage, said Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov in a speech at the Bulgarian National Assembly.

Six people were captured by the militant organization Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-North) on Monday after a helicopter accident in the Republic of Sudan. They were employees of the Bulgarian airline Heli Air and were operating a flight serving the UN World Food Programme, as reported by the Bulgarian National Television.

Mitov added that high-level negotiations with UN representatives are currently taking place, but more information is not available at the moment.

In his words, the UN representatives responsible for the negotiations are in constant contact with the Bulgarians.
Executive Director of Heli Air, Zahari Aleksiev said that the release of the six Bulgarian citizens is expected on Thursday.

The news website Dariknews meanwhile published [BG] a photo obtained by private national TV station NOVA showing four of the six Bulgarian citizens.
