Bulgaria's oppositional Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) threatens to initiate a vote of no confidence against the coalition government of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.
DPS is to hold the vote of no confidence after Borisov refused to request the resignation of Health Minister Petar Moskov, electronic daily Dnevnik reports.
DPS's leader Lyutvi Mestan demanded the resignation of Moskov due to his controversial statements regarding the attacks against emergency medical crews in Roma neighbourhoods.
In December 2014 Moskov proposed that unless the safety of emergency medical crews is guaranteed, they are to avoid Roma neighbourhoods due to repeated incidents suffered by medics.
DPS called for his resignation, labeling the Minister's remarks as xenophobic and anti-democratic.
Mestan declared that he is to invest the vote of no confidence, if Borisov does not request Moskov's resignation.
Although DPS had promised to tolerate the new government in its first 300 days, it will initiate a censure motion, which will not be against the cabinet's health policy, but solely against Moskov.
Borisov expressed his firm support for Moskov on Wednseday, justifying it with the professional actions taken by the Minister.
Similarly, the emergency medics have expressed their unconditional support for Moskov, threatening to resign in case the Minister is dismissed.
In order for a vote of no confidence to be initiated 48 MPs have to sign under it.
DPS has to collect 12 more signatures from MPs of other parliamentary groups in order to initiate the censure motion, private NOVA TV reports.
