Greece’s leftist anti-bailout opposition party Syriza is maintaining a steady lead over the ruling New Democracy party of Prime Antonis Samaras less than two weeks before the snap vote on January 25, opinion polls have shown.

A survey by pollster Pulse showed on Thursday that Syriza would win 31.5% of the vote against 28% for the conservative New Democracy, which has pushed through unpopular reform measures required by the country’s international lenders in exchange for a bailout.

According to the results of a separate poll by Rass released on Tuesday,  Syriza, which has pledged to cancel austerity measures and renegotiate conditions for Greece’s international bailout, would gather 30.2% of the vote against 27.2% for New Democracy.

Greece’s government coalition of New Democracy and its junior partner, the socialist party PASOK, has been forced to hold early elections after Parliament failed last month to approve former European Commissioner Stavros Dimas, the candidate for President of Greece nominated by Samaras, in the third and last round of voting.
