Following his victorious start at doubles, Bulgarian tennis player repeated his success in his first singles match for the new season.

Dimitrov won against Jeremy Chardy (France) with 3:6, 6:4, 7:6 (10:8) in the second round of the men's singles competition of the Brisbane International tournament.

The match was intense and kept the audience in suspense until the last second, as Dimitrov won after saving two match points and coming back from a set down, in a game that lasted for two hours and a half.

The Bulgarian proceeds to the quarter finals of the tournament, where he will face Martin Klizan from Slovakia.

Klizan also won in a thrilling match against Alexandr Dolgopolov (Ukraine) with 1:6, 7:6 (6), 7:6 (7).

The match did not commence well for Dimitrov, who reached the final of the 2013 edition of the tournament.

Dimitrov was hesitant at the beginning and conceded a break, allowing Chardy to come in the lead with 3:2.

Chardy achieved another break in the ninth game, following an unforced error by Dimitrov, and closed the first set with 6:3.

The Bulgarian improved his performance in the second set, achieving a break for 5:4, winning his service game and closing the set with 6:4.

In the decisive third set, Dimitrov missed six opportunities for a break, leading the set to a tie-break.

The Bulgarian established a 4:1 lead in the tie-break, but lost the next five rallies, allowing Chardy to win two match points at 6:4.

Dimitrov saved the two match points, missed two match points at 7:6, 8:7, but at the end managed to claim the set and the match at his third attempt.

Thus Dimitrov recorded a second victory against Chardy in the space of two days, having beaten him in the men's doubles competition.

The Bulgarian also has a 2-1 advantage in their singles encounters.

In the quarterfinals Dimitrov is to face for the first time Klizan, who is currently under number 34 in the world ranking.

Dimitrov is to play with his Australian partner Thanasis Kokkinakis against Robert Lindstedt (Sweden) and Marcin Matkowski (Poland) in the quarterfinals of the men's doubles competition on Thursday.

The match is scheduled to start around 5:30-6:30 a.m. Bulgarian time on Thursday.
