The Parliament’s Committee on corruption, conflicts of interest and parliamentary ethics will stop reviewing anonymous tip-offs, according to Valentin Nikolov, chair of the entity.

Nikolov, representative of nationalist coalition the Patriotic Front, announced in a Wednesday interview for the Bulgarian National Radio that the Committee on corruption, conflicts of interest and parliamentary ethics in the 43rd National Assembly, unlike its predecessors in the 41st and 42nd National Assembly, had adopted rules of procedure which ruled out anonymous signals.

Nikolov emphasized that the move was aimed at preventing attempts at political confrontation through anonymous tip-offs.

He backed the adoption of a code of ethics, adding that the efforts to reach agreement on such a document had been renewed, despite the failure of the 41st National Assembly to do so.

Nikolov assured that the parliamentary committee would handle all cases regardless of the party affiliation of the people involved.

“However, as long as I am Chair of this entity, I will not allow any of its members, or any MP or citizen, to use the committee for political confrontation. There are such attempts now. I will not allow this,” Nikolov said, stressing that people had to have the courage to stand behind the tip-offs with their names.

Nikolov also explained that the paperwork adopted by the previous panel was chaotic and he would ask Volen Siderov, the former chair of this committee, to hand over the register of tip-offs because he still had no access to such a register.
