Turkey has begun preliminary talks with US-based Westinghouse Electric Company on the construction of a third nuclear plant in the country.

The news was announced in a Westinghouse statement.

Turkish state-owned Electricity Generation company (E?AS) will be in charge of the talks which are due to go on for six months, H?rriyet Daily News quoted Turkish energy officials as saying.

Westinghouse said in its statement that, alongside development and construction, the project involves all live-cyle activities, including operations, nuclear fuel, maintenance, engineering, plant services and decommissioning.

Projects for two other NPP are to be carried out in Turkey. Construction of the first of them, the deal for which was sealed with Russia's Rosatom in 2011, is to kick off next year in the southern province of Mersin. The other one, envisaged to be in Sinop on the Black Sea coast, has been awarded to a Japanese-French consortium.
