The heads of state of Bulgaria and Poland, Rosen Plevneliev and Bronislaw Komorowski have united around the idea that an energy union could boost the EU's security of supplies, Plevneliev's press office has said.

President Plevneliev is currently on a two-day official visit to Poland at the invitation of counterpart Komorowski which started Tuesday.

Bulgaria's President announced the country should expect more Polish investment in the future as Bulgaria is consolidating itself as regional suppliers of parts for the automotive industry and engineering.

"The diversification and connectedness of the gas transportation systems through the building of interconnectors is of key importance to overcome the dependence on a single supplier and the safeguarding of energy security," the Bulgarian head of state is quoted as saying at a joint press conference with Komorowski.

Plevneliev also asserted Sofia will continue it work on the setting up of an integrated gas market in Southeast Europe and its connection to the Visegrad Group countries.

Both heads of state stressed the excellent cooperation between Sofia and Warsaw in security and defense and voiced their support for deepening ties between Bulgaria and Poland in the fields of education, science and culture.

After meeting Komorowski, Plevneliev is set to meet Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz, Senate Speaker Bogdan Borusewicz and Radoslaw Sikorski, currently Marshal of the Sejm (the lower house of Polish's Parliament).
