Majority of Bulgarians Work in Low-Paying Sectors, Below National Average Salary
Nearly three-quarters of Bulgaria’s workforce are employed in sectors where salaries remain below the national average
The number of people who cannot find a job for over a year, has increased, shows data of the National Statistical Institute (NSI).
At the same time, Bulgaria's unemployment rate in Q3 2014 dropped by 10.8% year-on-year, to 368 800 people. More than 60% of them, however, have been unemployed for more than 12 months. Their numbers decreased by 2.3% year-on-year.
Around 15% of the unemployed in Q3 were looking for their first job.
For the same period the employed were a little over 3 million. Of them 60% were working in the services sector and 30% in the industry. A total of 171 000 have a temporary job.
Three quarters of the jobs are in the private sector.
