The former Mayor of the southwestern Bulgarian municipality of Kocherinovo Kostadin Katin will serve a 4-year prison term.

Katin’s sentence was upheld Thursday by the Supreme Court of Cassation.

The Kyustendil District Prosecutor’s Office announced that he would serve his jail term at a open-type correctional facility, according to reports of Sega daily.

In end-January 2014, the Kyustendil District Court declared Katin guilty of overstepping his powers and issuing permits for tree felling and transportation of timber from a protected area in the period 2008-2010, as well as forging official documents and inciting five witnesses to commit perjury.

Apart from getting a 4-year prison term, Katin was also banned from holding public office related to managing state or municipal property.

Katin was Mayor of Kocherinovo for three terms in office and was removed from office in February 2011.
