The Saint Anastasia island near Bulgaria's Black Sea city of Burgas has been visited by 45 000 tourists during the summer months, announced by the local municipality.

The tourist influx has increased significantly compared to the beginning of the season. During the first month after the island was opened for tourists, it was visited by about 4 thousand people.

Saint Anastasia is the only island in Bulgaria turned into a tourist attraction. It can be reached by tourist boats that leave from the central beach in Burgas.

The island is ranked among the top 20 most attractive and interesting tourist sites in Bulgaria. Saint Anastasia has a chance to make it into the Wonders of Bulgaria 2014 list, Mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov said, investor.bg reports.

The Black Sea tourist attraction competes with the Madara Rider, the Tsarevets stronghold, Kaliakra cape, Perperikon in an online ranking of Bulgaria's top wonders. In November, a winner will be selected among the 10 finalists.
