Israel and Hamas Begin Prisoner Swap as Ceasefire Takes Effect
Israel released 90 Palestinian prisoners early on Monday as part of a ceasefire agreement with Hamas, just hours after three Israeli hostages were returned to Israel
British lawmakers overwhelmingly passed a nonbinding resolution in favor of a Palestinian state Monday night.
The vote was symbolic and will not alter the government's stance on the issue.
Britain’s current stance is that it would recognize a Palestinian state if it helped the peace process.
The final motion was passed by 274 votes to 12 at the House of Commons and it is not binding on the British government.
Government ministers and UK Prime Minister David Cameron abstained from the vote, according to reports of the BBC News.
The full motion stated: "That this House believes that the Government should recognise the state of Palestine alongside the state of Israel as a contribution to securing a negotiated two state solution."
