Bulgaria is to launch a pilot project to incorporate elements of the Swiss dual education system, President Rosen Plevneliev announced.

Plevneliev is on a two-day visit to Switzerland, where he met counterpart Didier Burkhalter, the Swiss president for 2014.

The project will be financed through a Bulgarian-Swiss program worth CHF 3.5 M (about EUR 2.9 M) of which Bern will be the biggest donor, according to the Bulgarian National Radio.

Bulgaria-based entities like the Bulgarian-Swiss Chamber of Commerce and other representatives of Swiss business here will also provide assistance.

The project envisages education of young Bulgarias in areas such as engineering, textile, the food industry, etc.

The dual system distinguishes between academic and vocational training, with different schools for the two main categories in both secondary and tertiary education.

Plevneliev is set to meet representatives of Switzerland's business and of the country's banking sector and also members of the Bulgarian community abroad.

On Tuesday, October 14, the President is also to hold talks with the Bulgarian scientific team at CERN European research center.

He will also meet International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach.
