Gazprom will build 20 new filling stations in Bulgaria by end-2016, according to Ivan Kostadinov, Genaral Mager of NIS Petrol Bulgaria.

NIS Petrol is 100%-owned by Gazprom Neft's subsidiary Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS).

Kostadinov, as cited by Trud daily, explained that the construction works would start in March or April.

He noted that NIS Petrol Bulgaria had 35 sites in Bulgaria which had been bought or rented from competitors, and the construction of the new filling stations would increase the total number to 55.

Kostadinov said that the priority locations for the new filling stations were the new sections of the Trakia motorway, as well as roads, which concentrated a substantial portion of traffic, the exits of Sofia, and big cities.

The Genaral Mager of NIS Petrol Bulgaria made clear that the company had bought 5 other plots on the Lyulin and Hemus motorways, in Sliven and Sofia, and the Kulata border crossing point.

He said that the construction permits for seven of the new filling stations had already been issued, with four of them located on the Trakia motorway, and the remaining 3 in Sofia.

NIS Petrol Bulgaria currently controls a 2.5% stake on the local fuel retail market and plans to expand its share to 10%.
