Explosion Rocks Romania's Largest Refinery - Petromidia
An explosion shook the largest Romanian refinery, Petromidia, located in Constanta County on the Black Sea coas
Operational Headquarters of the National Fire Security and Protection of Population Service is holding an emergency meeting over the blast at a privately-owned explosives factory in the village of Gorni Lom.
The explosion at the plant was registered at around 5pm on Wednesday.
The blast left three people injured but the number of victims remains unknown.
Caretaker Interior Minister Yordan Bakalov told journalists that the explosion resulted in human casualties.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that the death toll could reach 10 people.
The area around the factory has been sealed off.
Teams of police officers, fire engines and ambulances have been dispatched to the site.
Rescue teams are expected to enter the factory no earlier than 24 hours after the last explosion.
The site will be examined by drones and specialized equipment on Thursday morning.
15 people are believed to have been in the factory at the time of the explosion but the number has not been officially confirmed.
Caretaker Interior Minister Yordan Bakalov is traveling to the site of the incident, while Svetlozar Lazarov, Chief Secretary of the Interior, and Nikolay Nikolov, head of the National Fire Security and Protection of Population Service, have already arrived there.
