Bulgaria: Government to Discuss Budget Update with Employers, Unions Wednesday

Bulgaria’s caretaker government will discuss a draft 2014 budget update with employers and trade unions on Wednesday.

The National Council for Tripartite Cooperation was expected to discuss the update on Monday but the meeting was postponed on Friday after representatives of trade unions and employers' organisations asked for more time to study the proposed changes to the 2014 state budget and the budget of the National Health Insurance Fund.

The budget revision prepared by the caretaker cabinet envisages the issuing of BGN 4.5 B of new government debt to bridge a gap prompted by lower-than-planned 2014 budget revenue.

Any update to the state budget for the current year will have to be endorsed by the next parliament that will take office after October 5 snap vote.
