Bulgaria: Bulgaria Eyes EUR 71 M EU Grants for Cross-border Cooperation

Bulgaria expects to receive EUR 71 M in EU grants for financing projects for cross-border cooperation with Serbia, Macedonia and Turkey for the period 2014-2020.

The Regional Development Ministry in Sofia said in a statement on Wednesday the three programmes have been submitted for approval by the European Commission. The EU’s executive body is expected to announce its decision by the end of the year.

National co-financing by partner countries will bring the total amount of funding available under the three programmes to EUR 83 M.

The funds will be used to finance projects for the development of sustainable tourism, environment protection, youth programmes and bolstering the competitiveness of border regions’ businesses.
