Bulgarian police forces have detained a man who opened random fire in the Southern Bulgarian village of Buzovgrad and than barricaded himself in his home.

No-one has been left injured after his outburst, but a few cars in the neighborhood had their windows smashed.

Authorities say the man named Ibryam, 62, who had previously worked as a gunsmith at the Arsenal military factory in the town of Kazanlak, illegally possessed an improvised firearm.

At about 01:00 EEST (23:00 GMT) on Monday Ibryam produced several shots from his home, which is located meters from a hospital treating children with physical and mental disabilities.

The detainee handed himself over after a police operation started within an hour, but it took several hours from officers to talk him into surrendering and he came out around 05:00.

His mental state is so far unknown.

Neighbors say previously he had opened fire from his home a few times.

On March 14, a police officer was shot dead and three were left wounded after a 53-year-old man opened fire in the Bulgarian town of Lyaskovets.

The perpetrator, Petko Petkov, had been complaining from children playing in the schoolyard just meters from his balcony and had repeatedly threatened to shoot at them.
