Bulgaria’s caretaker Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov has arrived in New York on a working visit to take part in the 69th Session of the UN General Assembly.
Mitov will stay in New York by September 26, according to the press office of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry.
The Bulgarian delegation in New York is headed by President Rosen Plevneliev.
The theme of the general debate of the 69th session is "Delivering on and Implementing a Transformative Post-2015 Development Agenda".
The Assembly’s annual general debate, which provides Member States the opportunity to express their views on major international issues, will open on Wednesday, 24 September, and run through Wednesday, 1 October.
The general debate will bring together UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, President of the 69th UN General Assembly Sam Kahamba Kutesa, Brazil's President, Dilma Rousseff, and US President Barack Obama.
During the session, there will be high-level events devoted to climate change, the Global Education First Initiative, the French initiative for a voluntary code to restrict the veto's use by the UN Security Council, etc.
On September 24, the UN Security Council will hold a meeting on the problem of international terrorism under the presidency of the US President.
Bulgaria’s caretaker Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov will take part in a meeting of EU foreign ministers, a Transatlantic Dinner, ministerial meetings of the Group of Friends of Mediation, and a meeting devoted to issues of European security and the role of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
Mitov’s agenda also includes an informal meeting of representatives of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) on the topic of increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization and a working lunch of the South East European Co-operation Process (SEECP) Foreign Ministers.
Mitov will also take part in a series of bilateral meetings to present Bulgaria’s stance on a wide range of issues such as international peace and security, human rights and sustainable development, Central and Eastern Europe, the BSEC, the SEECP, the Western Balkans and the Middle East.
The agenda of Bulgaria’s caretaker Foreign Minister also includes talks with his counterparts from Andorra, Vietnam, Iraq, Macedonia, Turkey, San Marino, Ukraine, etc.
